A Brief comment of "fall trolling"
9-2006
This (September full moon phase) is often when people who have read an article or some internet dribble about "Fall Night Fishing" come to Mille Lacs expecting to fish one reef, one crankbait for one night out of the year and catch a bazillion walleye just because "it's the full moon"... good luck! We've seen some great full moon phases and some real dogs - factor in components like water temperature, forage availability, water clarity, clear or overcast, windy or flat, stickbait or shad body, color/size... I could go on. Combine these with your knowledge of the lake, boat control, presentation and fishing saavy and you can see that there are a lot more factors to fall fishing than just a hollow circle on the calendar. Run your cranks, but remember to hit a few reefs, try a few colors, switch-up the body styles, try deeper or shallower and fish every chance you get - only wet baits catch fish!
